yep, it's surprising how a "loud" appaloosa can disapear in the right background.
Reminds me of a picture (painted-type) featuring a group of chestnut-and-white pinto horses traveling through a late autumn grove of trees that had lingering patches of snow on the ground. The artist was having entirely too much fun playing optical illusion games with the color splashes on the horses and the white splashes of the snow.
you may be thinking of Bev Doolittle. She uses canvas and paints, I use genetics to make up my camo-horse.
